Ever wondered what it looks like – inside of a typical Copenhagen apartment house like this? Jan De Wilde and Magnum photographer Olivia Arthur decided to find out…

From the outside all the buildings are the same. But when I talked to the people who live there, I recognized an enormous diversity and sense of solidarity. Everybody I spoke to talked about how much they like living there and that they all have a lot of family history which started there long ago. Many families and relatives live in the same building. Everybody shares a connection and communal place.

I think the photos are amazing. The apartments reveal the genuine personality of many Copenhageners; relaxed, openminded – with a sense of minimalistic and cool style. What do you think? Enjoy :)

Peace & Love,

LOL – typical informal Copenhagenish: Airing out the comforter in public. The Danish way of laundry lines between the Italian houses!

Small ceramic and glass animals. My immediate guess here is this particular apartment belongs to an elderly Copenhagen lady.

Young guy cooking. The average Copenhagen kitchen is typically small and narrow – the square meters are in favor of the living room.

Copenhagen guy chilling in a typical Danish sofa; soft and in neutral colors, pimped by a colorful sofa cushion.

Classic Copenhagenish: Wooden floors – NO wall to wall carpets, please. And a designer chair.

Love it! The general subtle colors of the houses are often mixed with a bright facade.
