Blog reader Jenny wrote me for advice prior to her family moving to Denmark this summer. In order to answer her questions properly I got in touch with Expat in Denmark. If you happen to have any additional advice for Jenny, please comment this blog post!
- We will first be needing a rental house and then we would buy once we know the areas better. We would like to be between Hillerød and Copenhagen so that language schools are available (I must learn the language!). I was thinking about Lyngby because it seems well placed. What do you think?
- Are there any things you think I should be particularly aware of?
- Is there anywhere I should avoid? I am not working just now but will look for work once the children are settled.
- Do schools provide ‘after-school’ care in Denmark?
The answer from Frederikke at Expat in Denmark – thank you so much for helping out, guys :)
Lyngby is a great area I grew up there myself. You’ll find both green areas, the little lake, good shopping opportunities and easy transport to both Hillerød and Copenhagen. Lyngby is not far from Hellerup where you’ll find Copenhagen International School. Check out this link for International Schools.
All schools offer after-school care.
For language schools click here.
You will find one located in Hellerup as well and I’m sure you will be able to find a language course in Lyngby too or be provided a Danish course when settling.
